Starigrad-Paklenica is located in the far northwestern part of Zadar County, and geographically belongs to northern Dalmatia. This area is entirely in a protected natural environment because Velebit along with its coast since 1981 has a status of nature park. In the vicinity of Starigrad, there are 5 of the 8 Croatian National Parks (Paklenica, Kortnati, Krka, Plitvice Lakes and North Velebit) and 3 nature parks (Velebit, Telašćica and Vransko Lake).
